We call on nation-states to include the recognition, support and protection of environmental human rights defenders in the agenda of the discussions and negotiations during COP27. The Asia Pacific Network of Environment Defenders calls for civil society organizations and the United Nations for continuing vigilance regarding the worsening attacks of environmental human rights defenders. Amidst the climate crisis, the environment is at a tipping point and people’s environmental and human rights are at stake.

The Deep Sea Mining Campaign (DSMC) has had a consistent focus for over a decade deep sea mining and its very real threat to the world’s oceans. Our unique approach combines research and evidence-based advocacy, finance advocacy and collaborative solidarity with frontline communities across the Pacific, and regional and international partners and networks.

Environmental defenders in the Pacific are invited to a capacity building activity with the support of UNEP and OHCHR Pacific Regional Office in partnership with organizations in the Pacific from March 16-18.
