[VIDEO] Bravery Amidst Adversity: A Glimpse at the Critical State of the Environmental Human Rights Defenders in South Asia

March 31, 2024

South Asia is one of the most vulnerable regions in the world to climate change. But even as the impacts of climate disasters intensify in the region, South Asian environmental human rights defenders (EHRDs) are under greater risk.

South Asian EHRDs are those who do critical work to defend their lands, waters, and communities against socially and environmentally destructive projects, like large-scale mining, coal plants, and mega-dams. While the kind of violence and repression that South Asian EHRDs face from state and private actors is alarming, their continued resistance and hard-won victories should also inspire us to advocate for their protection, and in doing so, avert the climate crisis.

Watch the video below to learn about the situation of South Asian EHRDs.

This video draws from the stories and insights offered by South Asian EHRDs and written in the APNED publication of the same name, published here: https://apned.net/publication-bravery-amidst-adversity/
